R Vijayasankar

R Vijayasankar has been the Editor of Frontline for the past five years. After completing his post-graduation in M A English Literature from St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Tiruchirapalli and Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism for Developing Countries from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi, he joined Indian Express (Bangalore) in 1986. In 1988, he joined The Hindu and shifted to Frontline in 1990. He has competed 30 years in journalism, 28 of them in The Hindu Group of Publications. He won the Appan Menon Fellowhip in 2002 to study the post-1967 phase of the Dravidian movement. As part of this research, he has published interviews and articles in Frontline. He has published booklets in Tamil dealing with the Dravidian movement, Latin American politics, and the history of identity politics in Tamil Nadu. A 300-page collection of his Tamil articles and translations (from English to Tamil) was published in 2011. He is currently writing the history of the Dravidian movement in English and Tamil.
